7 Essential Oils for Better Sleep
There’s something powerful about having a bedtime ritual.
A few small cues, dimming the lights, putting your phone away, slowing your breathing and surrounding yourself with a familiar calming scent, can signal that the day is done and it’s time to switch off.
Essential oils have long been used in aromatherapy to support relaxation and rest, with lavender being one of the most studied oils for sleep. Here are seven of our favourites to reach for when you’re ready to wind down.
1. Lavender
For: Relaxation + winding down
The classic sleep oil for good reason. Soft, floral and deeply comforting, lavender is one of the best-studied essential oils for sleep and has been associated with improvements in sleep quality. Perfect for those nights when your body is tired but your mind hasn’t quite got the memo.

2. Roman Chamomile
For: A busy mind
Gentle, herbaceous and slightly sweet, Roman chamomile is traditionally used in aromatherapy for its calming qualities. We love it as part of an evening ritual when you need to mentally leave the day behind.

3. Sweet Orange
For: Letting go of the day
Fresh, warm and uplifting, sweet orange brings a beautiful softness to heavier sleep oils. Its bright citrus aroma makes it especially lovely when stress or a flat mood is following you into the evening.

4. Cedarwood
For: Feeling grounded
Warm, woody and earthy, cedarwood has that wonderful forest-like quality that instantly makes a space feel quieter. It’s often used in nighttime aromatherapy blends to create a grounding, peaceful atmosphere.
5. Bergamot
For: Evening tension
Unlike most citrus oils, bergamot has an unexpectedly soft, floral character. It’s widely used in aromatherapy blends designed for relaxation and is a beautiful choice when you want to shift out of work mode and into rest.
6. Sandalwood
For: Slowing everything down
Rich, woody and meditative, sandalwood has been used in rituals for centuries. Its deep aroma makes it particularly beautiful at night — especially alongside slow breathing, meditation or a few quiet minutes before bed.
7. Ylang Ylang
For: Creating calm
Sweet, floral and slightly exotic, ylang ylang brings an almost cocooning quality to a nighttime blend. A little goes a long way, making it a beautiful supporting oil when you want your evening ritual to feel especially calming.
Create Your Own Sleep Ritual
Better sleep doesn’t always start when your head hits the pillow. Start slowing things down 30 minutes before bed: lower the lights, put the screens away and give your senses a few consistent cues that it’s time to rest.
Mist Dream Ritual Pillow Mist over your pillow and bedroom, apply Calming Aromatherapy Roller to your pulse points and take a few slow breaths before climbing into bed.
Or make it easy with our Sleep Support Kit, bringing both rituals together in one simple nighttime routine.
Small ritual. Big shift.
